Trees for our planet and the planet we all share

 

Hello everyone, 

Patrice Humbert and I, Susan Kelly, are Cessenonais.  Patrice was born here, and I am Cessenonaise by choice. 

We have begun a project to mobilize the energy of local volunteers to plant and nurture at least a thousand -1 000 - trees in our village this spring. 

Our objective is to make a practical contribution to reducing CO2 in the atmosphere and Cessenon’s role in the climate crisis, while increasing community cohesion.

We were thrilled when our Mayor, Madame Marie-Pierre Pons offered us flood-prone village land, otherwise unusable but perfect for a new plantation in drought-prone Cessenon. 

Mme Pons and her colleagues in Hérault fully support this initiative. 

Hérault is giving Cessenon 32 trees this year; trees that are suited to our conditions: Micocouliers, Arbres de Judée, Tilleuils à petites feuilles, Erables champêtre.

However, we can do better, we need to do much better – for our planet.

 

We will plant small trees from the same varieties best suited to survive in our soil and climate conditions. 

 

The best time to get these trees in the ground is before early April.

 

Our FIRST OBJECTIVE is to engage as many supporters in Cessenon as we can, to finance the purchase of young trees and their guards - essential for tree-survival, especially in the first years. The cost of 1 000 trees and guards exceeds the town hall budget. 

 

That’s where you come in!

 

Our SECOND OBJECTIVE is to have the land prepared by machine and then engage a large group of volunteers (adults and young people) to plant the trees in April. A smaller group is needed to maintain them, especially during the first five summers.

 

This is a new, small forest for OUR beautiful village and OUR precious planet – a small contribution to a better world AND a new happy place for Cessenonaises to walk in and enjoy. 

23 million people in Ethiopia planted 350 million trees in ONE DAY last year.

 

We can do our bit!

 

Each donation brings us closer to our goal of 8 000€. 

Each tree costs 5 or 6€ and its guard costs another 3€. 

The more generous we are, the faster we get there.

 

IF ONLY HALF of the 1500 adults in Cessenon contribute 10€ each, we will make our goal quickly.

The major benefit to you as a donor is the knowledge – and warm feeling - that you are doing a good thing for our village and planet.

10€  -we will give you a letter of thanks;

 

25€ - an invitation to a Thank You meeting;

 

50€ or more - recognition on the Mairie’s website AND at the planting days;

 

75€ or more – a personalised Certificate of Appreciation from the Mayor and an invitation to a special social event

 

100€ - a personalised  TREE MENTOR sign in the new forest

 

All funds raised ABOVE the goal of 8 000€ will allow us to plant even more than 1 000 trees,  making an even greater difference to save our planet!

Again, what will the collection be used for?

Purchase of 1 000 small trees, mulch and materials to build a guard for each tree to protect them from wind and animal damage.

To contribute

Your contribution will be fully reimbursed if the project does not reach 60% of its objective.
