Le Verger d'à côté - A new start after the floods.

A family story...

In a family where farming goes from father to son, André Ska and Christel Laffineur have been running the farm on the rue de la Commanderie in Hargimont (a small village near Marche-en-Famenne) since 2001.

"Diversity, proximity and conviviality" is their motto, a perfect mix of the love for the land André inherited from his parents and the sense of welcome Christel develops every day in her job as a postwoman.

In 2009, André and Christel decided to offer a fruit press service to individuals and institutions. Their objectives: to valorise fruit that is not accepted in traditional sales channels and to revitalise the short-chain by working with other local producers and consumers.

From the start, "Le Verger d'a Côté" has worked with local cooperatives and businesses, schools, cultural centres in the region and, of course, individuals.

In more than ten years, "Le Verger d'à Côté" has never ceased to test new flavours while ensuring the quality of their services and products, and this to the delight of everyone's taste buds.

And then came 15 and 16 July 2021...

After the terrible floods that hit Belgium on 15 July 2021, the pressing installation at the Hargimont farm was badly damaged and is therefore out of service.

Despite the enormous solidarity that arose to help clean up, the aftermath of the water damage is painful:

The press, the essential working tool to run  "Le Verger d'à côté", is out of order and urgently needs to be restarted in order to secure the rapidly approaching fruit season.

That is why we are mobilising, together with family and friends of "Le Verger d'à côté", in order to raise funds to get this great  tool up and running again for the benefit of all, individuals and institutions alike!
